Coburn Seeks Review of FEMA
Muskogee Phoenix
April 11, 2007
WASHINGTON, D.C. — U.S. Sen. Tom Coburn, R-Okla., is pushing for an open and transparent review of the decision to deny individual assistance to Oklahomans impacted by the January ice storm.
In a letter sent to Federal Emergency Management Director David Paulison, Coburn asked the agency to release the information and criteria used to deny the state’s request for individual assistance.
“As public confidence in the federal government continues to decline, I feel it is imperative for all federal agencies, and Congress for that matter, to conduct business in the most open, transparent manner possible,” Coburn wrote.
“Only through complete transparency, and a willingness to explain all decisions in detail, will public confidence be restored.”
Coburn said he intends to seek oversight of agencies that fall short of the standards outlined in his letter.
