Why Support NHD?

All students should become active citizens and appreciate our nation’s history. NHD helps students become better prepared and more knowledgeable citizens. More than half a million students, their families and teachers participate annually in this unique program. Through NHD young Americans are not only developing an appreciation of their heritage, but essential life skills that will help them succeed in school, college and the workplace.

You can contribute with confidence to National History Day.

National History Day is one of the world’s leading humanities education programs and is one of the rare programs that provides students with the critical thinking and literacy skills used in all subject areas. For more than 25 years this year-long, nonprofit program has promoted systemic educational reform related to the teaching and learning of history in America's schools.

NHD was established in 1974 as a local contest at Case Western Reserve University in Ohio to help reinvigorate the teaching and learning of history in elementary and secondary schools. With initial support from the National Endowment for the Humanities, NHD expanded rapidly into a national program. Today, NHD must rely on the contributions of individuals and corporations for the support necessary to ensure a vibrant program.

Make history every day…join NHD’s growing family.
