Civil War History 

Sponsored by the Civil War Preservation Trust, a nonprofit organization that promotes appreciation and stewardship of our nation's historical, cultural, and environmental heritage through preservation of significant Civil War battlefields and supporting preservation and education programs.  This prize is awarded to an outstanding entry in any category and from either division which focuses on the history of the American Civil War.

The Franklin and Eleanor Roosevelt Institute 20th Century Political History Prize 

The prize is for the study of political history during the Roosevelt era and is awarded to an outstanding student project in any category in both senior and junior divisions. Applicable projects include those on Franklin or Eleanor Roosevelt, the study of WWI, the Great Depression, the New Deal, WWII, the United Nations, the Cold War, Civil Rights and Human Rights.

George C Marshall 20th Century

Sponsored by the George C. Marshall Foundation, this prize is awarded to an outstanding entry whose research and presentation relate to aspects of the life and times of George C. Marshall, including World War I, the Civil Conservation Corps, World War II, the early period of the Cold War, the Marshall Plan, women and minorities in the military, the American Red Cross, and other issues of military and diplomatic history, and the social consequences thereof, in the first half of the 20th century. 

The George C. Marshall Foundation was created to preserve the legacy of Gen. Marshall and to promote the ideals and values of disciplined selfless service, hard work, integrity, devotion to duty and compassion, which characterized his life.

Sponsored by the Society for History of the Federal Government, a national professional organization open to all that are interested in federal history programs and the history of all branches of the U.S. government.  The prize is awarded to the best entry in any category or division, illuminating the history of the American federal government.

History of Agriculture and Rural Life 

Sponsored by the Agricultural Historical Society, the prize is awarded to the best project in the junior or senior divisions, in any category, focused on the history of agriculture and/or rural life in any country or time period.  The Agricultural Historical Society was founded in 1919 to promote the study of the history of agriculture and rural life in America and throughout the world.

History of Religious Freedom 

Sponsored by the Council for America's First Freedom, which focuses on religious freedom in America.  The prize is awarded to an outstanding entry in any category or division that documents and analyzes the history of religious freedom in the U.S. and/or internationally.

History of the American Presidency 

Sponsored by the Truman Library Institute, this prize is awarded to the entry in any category and from either division that best demonstrates the contributions made by an American president in U.S. or World History.  The Truman Library Institute programs include providing grants to scholars, recognizing important new books relating to Truman's life and presidency, sponsoring conferences, and fostering the Truman Library's archives, museum and educational programs.

Holocaust History Sponsored by The Jewish Foundation for the Righteous this award is given to a student in the senior division that documents and analyzes a subject related to the Holocaust in Europe between 1933 and 1945.  The project will focus on perpetrators, victims, bystanders, or rescuers, or on any topic that has historical significance, influence, or impact.  

The JFR's education program focuses on educating teachers and their students about the history of the Holocaust and the significance of altruistic behavior for our society.

Irish or Irish-American History 

Sponsored by the Ancient Order of Hibernians (AOH), the prize is awarded to two projects in either junior or senior divisions, in any category.  These outstanding entries demonstrate excellence in the study or presentation of Irish/Irish-American History.  The AOH is the oldest, largest and most prominent Irish Catholic fraternal organization in the nation.  It was founded in New York City in 1816 and presently has a membership that exceeds 100,000.  The medals awarded with this prize are in honor of Commodore John Barry, USN (1745-1803), who was a native of Ireland and Father of the U.S. Navy.

Lee Allen History of Baseball Award 

Sponsored by the Society for American Baseball Research, an association of more than 6,000 individuals who enjoy reading, writing, talking and learning about all aspects of baseball.  The Lee Allen prize honors the best entry in any category and in either division relating to baseball which best demonstrates research skills, accuracy and an appreciation of the national pastime.  The prize is named in honor of Lee Allen, the historian at the National Baseball Hal of Fame and Museum from 1950-1969.

Military History Sponsored by the Historical Miniature Gaming Society (HMGS) which exists to promote, aid and assist in the fostering of the education of historical gaming and military history. Through this prize HMGS is promoting an understanding of military history by rewarding outstanding research which explicates the role of military institutions, strategies and conflicts in shaping military operations or national interests. The HMGS Military History special prize is given in recognition of demonstrated excellence in the study of military history  in any category and in either division. Naval History 

Sponsored by the Naval Historical Foundation, whose mission includes support of the Naval Historical Center, which collects, preserves, displays and interprets naval collections and writes and publishes historical documents covering over 200 years of naval history.  The award is given to the best entry on naval history in any category and in either division.

Outstanding Entry on Colonial America or Revolutionary History 

Sponsored by the Colonial Williamsburg foundation, a Foundation dedicated to teaching, preservation, study and presentation of the colonial American and Revolutionary period, the prize recognizes demonstrated excellence in the study of colonial American or Revolutionary period history.  The prize is awarded to an outstanding entry in either junior or senior divisions, in any category that documents and analyzes a colonial American or Revolutionary period subject (s).

Women's History 
(Senior Division)

Sponsored by the Journal of Women's History and the National Women's History Project, this prize is awarded to the best project in senior division, in any category, that focuses on the contribution, accomplishments, experiences and perspectives of women in U.S. history.

The Journal of Women's History (JWH) is dedicated to publishing the best scholarship in women's history and stimulating dialogue of substantive issues in the field. The winners of the Women's History Special Prizes will be featured in JWH.

Women's History 
(Junior Division)

Co-sponsored by the Lois Zapolsky Memorial Family Fund and the Coordinating Council for Women in History, this prize is awarded to the best project in the junior division, in any category, focused on the contribution, accomplishments, experiences and perspectives of women throughout time and societies.

The Lois Zapolsky Memorial Family Fund was established by the Zapolsky family to encourage an understanding and appreciation of the roles of women throughout time and societies.  The Coordinating Council for Women in History (CCWH), an affiliate of the American Historical Association, was created in 1969 to advocate for women in the profession and practice of history.

This award goes to the best SENIOR entry that focuses on an international topic and provides research from sources outside of the United States.
