Biography:
Carmen Agra Deedy, children's book author and storyteller, was born in Havana and emigrated from Cuba to the United States with her family in 1963. She has won numerous awards for her work. Her latest book, "Martina, the Beautiful Cockroach: A Cuban Folktale" (Peachtree, 2007), is being released in English and Spanish. Deedy will appear in the Children's Pavilion.

The 2007 National Book Festival, organized and sponsored by the Library of Congress and hosted by First Lady Laura Bush will be held on Saturday, Sept. 29, 2007, on the National Mall in Washington, D.C., between 7th and 14th streets from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The festival is free and open to the public.
