Letters to the Editor: Keeping His Word
The Oklahoman

Keeping his word
Oklahomans should feel proud after listening to President Bush's State of the Union speech. One of the topics he talked about was earmarks (usually called "pork”). Why should Oklahomans be proud? In 2004 we elected a man to the U.S. Senate who promised to work tirelessly on the problem of excess spending by Congress. He's kept his word and this has often put him at odds with many of his fellow members of Congress. We can all say we had a hand in getting this item into the State of the Union address.
Cheers to an elected official who does what he promised. Thank you, Sen. Tom Coburn. Keep up the good work!
Virgil R. Cooper, Drumright
Cooper was the 1994 Democratic nominee for the Oklahoma congressional seat that was won by Coburn, a Republican.
