COMMERCE COMMITTEE ANNOUNCES WITNESSES FOR SPENT NUCLEAR FUEL TRANSPORTATION SAFETY HEARING | |

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation announces the witnesses for the Full Committee hearing on The Safety and Security of Spent Nuclear Fuel Transportation, scheduled for September 24, 2008, at 2:00 p.m. The hearing will examine the safety and security challenges relating to the transportation of nuclear waste, including the potential transportation of spent nuclear fuel and high-level radioactive waste to the proposed Yucca Mountain repository. The hearing will review the current regulatory structure for the shipping and transport of nuclear waste, as well as any concerns regarding the impact of increased nuclear waste transportation.
