Laws already protect against discrimination

November 16, 2007

The federal government should not provide special protections for homosexuals because federal, state, and local laws already provide protection of life and liberty for all United States Citizens.  If we begin treating people as special groups and no longer as individuals, we further separate them from the whole and create more barriers to equal treatment.

The Constitution protects each of us, and the Supreme Court has ruled in favor of protections over and over again.  Instead of looking for new individualized protections, like the Employment Non-Discrimination Act (ENDA), we should support the protections we already have to the fullest extent. This bill passed the House without my support by a vote of 235-184.  It is now up to the Senate to act.
