For too long, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (BAFTE) has lacked clear guidelines for firearm testing.  Over the last five years, 85 percent of American firearm manufacturers have gone out of business because of complex and ever-changing BAFTE regulations.

That is why I have signed on as a co-sponsor of the Fairness in Firearms Testing Act.  This bill will improve consistency and accountability in firearm testing by giving U.S. gun manufacturers access to video documentation of their products’ testing.  Manufacturers will also be able to contest the BAFTE testing decisions.  I am glad that we agree on this issue.
