More than a million Armenians were killed during WWI. Many more were later displaced during territorial disputes. I am a cosponsor of the Armenian genocide resolution and have cosponsored similar measures in previous years. This resolution would officially recognize the tragic deaths of Armenians from 1915 to 1923 as genocide. 

Genocide is a horrible truth in the history of the world, and I stand against it, but the timing of a vote could have a detrimental effect on the success and security of our troops in Iraq.  I sent a statement to Speaker Pelosi that said I would vote against this legislation if brought to the floor this year. My decision on the vote has not diminished my support for the resolution.
