Americans expect the very highest level of safety in the products they buy. Recent recalls of imported goods have caused many of us to question the effectiveness of the agencies and regulators who are legally responsible for protecting consumers.

I supported the Consumer Product Safety Modernization Act which recently passed the House with overwhelming bipartisan support. This legislation will establish additional safety standards for consumer products, such as children's toys, and modernize the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission. A similar bill passed in the Senate and I will monitor this issue closely as Congress negotiates a final version.
