ACORN Corruption is Outrageous

October 28, 2008

The manipulation and corruption of voter registrations by ACORN volunteers at taxpayer expense is outrageous and Americans are right to be angry about it. There is no excuse for this blatant dishonesty and misuse of the American people’s hard-earned money. News stories indicate that the FBI and the Justice Department have been asked to investigate ACORN’s activities and I fully support every effort to hold this organization accountable for any wrongdoing.

House Republican Leader John Boehner has also called on President Bush to stop all federal funding being siphoned to ACORN after discovering that the organization has received over $31 million in taxpayer dollars since 1998. You can read more about ACORN’s funding and see a breakdown of it on Leader Boehner’s website. Congress should address federal funding for ACORN when it reconvenes in November.

The right to vote is a cornerstone in the foundation of our Republic. In the words of Thomas Paine, it is "the primary right by which all other rights are protected." By registering to vote, each American citizen shows they understand the awesome privilege, duty and responsibility that every citizen is accorded under our Constitutional system. The fraud being reported demeans that privilege and we must hold those responsible accountable.
