Dome Facts

Opened:   November 12, 1995, (Rams 28, Carolina 10) 

Seating Capacity: 66,000. The first 14 rows are retractable seats to provide space for meetings and trade shows. 

Size: 205 feet high, 14 acres wide. The 12.5 acre roof structure weighs 10.4 million pounds. There were 262 miles, or 64,000 yards, of concrete used.

   
Turf: Magic Carpet Astro Turf. There are 73,000 square feet of turf, weighing 100,000 pounds. Hydraulic winches pull the Astro Turf carpet out of a pit beneath the concrete floor.  An air blower system blows air between the floor and carpet to reduce the friction of the turf being dragged across the Dome floor.  After use, the turf is rolled up by the drive roll machinery in the pit. Football-ready setup time takes approximately three hours using the Magic Carpet system. 

Cost:  $280 million 

Stadium Club:  The Club level has 42,500 square feet of bars, food service and hospitality space.  No other stadium dedicates an entire concourse to its stadium club. 

Scoreboard System:  Sony JumboTron, White Way Matrix Scoreboard. The two Sony JumboTrons stand 20 feet high and 26 feet wide and weigh 10,800 pounds. The system consumes a maximum of 62,330 watts of electricity. 
 
Restrooms: There are 968 public toilets, including 478 for women, 481 for men, and nine family restrooms.

Events:  The Edward Jones Dome was the site of the largest indoor gathering ever held in the United States - the 1999 Mass celebrated by Pope John Paul II.
