Royce Votes to Fund America's Priorities
National, economic and personal security top FY 03's budget resolution

Washington, Mar 20, 2002 - Citing the triple threat of potential terrorist attacks, the war on terrorism and the economic slowdown, U.S. Rep. Ed Royce (R-CA-39) voted today in support for H.Con.Res. 353, the fiscal year 2003 Budget Resolution. This legislation passed the House 221-209.
"This is a unique moment in history: our nation is at war, our homeland was attacked, and our economy is in recession. This wartime budget holds government accountable for results and addresses three major priorities - winning the war on terrorism, strengthening protections of our homeland, and revitalizing our economy and creating jobs," said Royce.

"It's a well-crafted, balanced budget plan that ensures national, economic and personal security for all Americans while exercising fiscal discipline," Royce said. "Our budget stands behind our military, supports our veterans, creates jobs, strengthens education for our children, and gives our seniors prescription drug coverage."

Specifically, the budget would provide:

National Security - Provides the President with all the resources necessary to meet the nation's top priority of winning the war and strengthening our homeland security, while investing in future technology and keeping our promise to our veterans.

Economic Security - Makes government live within its means to ensure we return to paying down debt by 2004, while creating jobs and investing in infrastructure and other future needs.

Personal Security - Ensures a more secure future for American families by investing in education, healthcare, and retirement security.
"Recently enacted tax relief to protect workers and create jobs is also funded under this act. This is a budget that meets our most important spending priorities," Royce said.
