Cadets practice trench warfare
Trench warfare in the classroom
Cadets practiced the principles of trench warfare in Robinson Auditorium Wednesday. To simulate the evolution of German World War I tactics against the French from 1914 through 1918, cadets were placed in offensive positions on the stage and defensive positions in the seats with wads of paper to represent artillery and machine gun fire. When the cadets onstage exhausted their “artillery,” they advanced into the trenches only by stepping on the arms of the chairs. Each time, cadets playing the defending French in the trenches were able to vanquish their attackers, until the offensive cadets practiced the infiltration tactics of German stormtroopers by moving into the aisles of the auditorium and crippling the defense.
