BONO MACK EXPRESSES CONCERN ABOUT PROPOSED DETENTION FACILITY
Offers to facilitate discussion between County and Federal land agencies

Congresswoman Mary Bono Mack today issued the following statement about the proposed Riverside County Regional Detention Center in Whitewater, emphasizing that all options must be fully explored to ensure that the best possible location is chosen for the much needed facility:
“Many have expressed their concerns regarding placing the proposed Whitewater jail at the gateway to our desert communities. I share these concerns about the potential impacts such a facility may have on residents, visitors, and on our reputation as a world-class resort region.
“I appreciate the need for such a facility in our county, but also believe that we need to fully explore every option to ensure that the optimum location is selected. I have contacted the Federal Bureau of Land Management to inquire about other potential sites, and stand ready to work with the County of Riverside, our local communities, all Federal land agencies, and our local business leaders to ensure that the best possible location is chosen for this much needed detention facility.”
