The City of Garden Grove Community Development Department continues to offer free workshops in 2009 for first-time homebuyers interested in purchasing a home in Garden Grove. The eight-hour workshop is broken up into two, staggered, four-hour classes. Classes take place one Saturday a month, from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., at the Garden Grove Courtyard Center, located in the Village Green, at 12732 Main Street.
In response to the success the Garden Grove "Wreck Hall” received last summer, and in continuation of efforts for youth enrichment, the Community Services Department is pleased to re-open the “Wreck Hall,” located in Eastgate Park at 12001 St. Mark Street. The center will re-open on Tuesday, January 20, 2009.
The City of Garden Grove is seeking candidates to serve as non-compensated commissioners. Applicants must be Garden Grove residents, be able to serve a two-year term of office, and be available to attend regularly scheduled meetings. Commissioners serve as advisors to the City Council, providing recommendations that become part of the City’s decision-making process.
This Valentine’s Day goes to the dogs as Garden Grove unleashes its first city dog park. The Community Services Department hosts a grand opening on Saturday, February 14, 2009, from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the dog park, located north of the Garden Grove Sports and Recreation Center in Garden Grove Park. Garden Grove Park is at 9301 Westminster Avenue, off of Deodara Drive.
Garden Grove Police investigators recently made their first web-based suspect identification and arrest as a result of a new City webpage called, "Garden Grove’s Most Wanted." The new feature is accessible by clicking on the link found on the left side menu.

Last year, the City introduced a new campaign to encourage local shopping during the holidays. Participating businesses offered special discounts to shoppers who mentioned the phrase, "Buy in Garden Grove."
