REP. LOEBSACK HONORS DR. MARTIN LUTHER KING’S LEGACY

Washington, D.C., Jan 16 -

Congressman Dave Loebsack released the following statement today in commemoration of the upcoming Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday, observed Monday, January 19.

“Dr. Martin Luther King made the ultimate sacrifice for the fundamental belief that everyone in this great nation should have equal opportunity to succeed and achieve the American Dream.

“It is an incredible tribute to Dr. King’s legacy that on Tuesday President-elect Barack Obama will be sworn in to serve as our nation’s 44th President.  This historic event is the embodiment of the progress Dr. King fought so hard to achieve forty years ago. Still, we must not allow this great progress to erase from our minds the struggles that still continue today for people young and old in Iowa and across the nation.  As we face great challenges in the days ahead, I have the upmost confidence that President-elect Obama’s ability to lead, and the people of America’s commitment to change, will restore hope and opportunity to all.”
