Hoyer Statement on Rep. Jim Clyburn’s Election as House Democratic Caucus Chair

WASHINGTON, DC – House Democratic Whip Steny Hoyer (MD) released the following statement today regarding the election of Representative Jim Clyburn (SC) as the Chair of the House Democratic Caucus:

“I have known my good friend Jim Clyburn for over forty years.  Mr. Clyburn will be an extraordinary Chairman.  He is a well-respected and thoughtful Member of the House.

“Mr. Clyburn vowed to our Caucus today to continue his life-long effort to ensure that every American child has the opportunity to succeed.  This is a goal shared by all Democrats and we welcome his leadership in continuing our fight to help all Americans secure the American Dream.

“Jim Clyburn also symbolizes the diversity of our caucus and of our nation.  He brings with him life experiences that will inform and guide our Caucus in the right direction for our nation.
