Hoyer Statement on Court Decision Regarding School Desegregation

WASHINGTON, DC - House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer (MD) released the following statement today regarding the Supreme Court's decisions in Parents Involved in Community Schools Inc. v. Seattle School District and Meredith v. Jefferson County (Ky.) Board of Education:

"Today's decision by the Supreme Court is based on flawed logic that purports to promote equal opportunity when in fact it threatens to reverse decades of careful effort to ensure that all American children are given an equal opportunity for a quality education.  It appears to be a frontal assault on Brown v. Board and to ignore the realities of persistant de facto segregation and unequal opportunity.

"This is another example of the current Court ignoring precedent and handing down decisions that collide with fundamental American values and even common sense."
