Senator Carper, pictured here with members of the Delaware color guard, joined local preservationists and historians to announce $300,000 in federal money to help restore the Bellanca Air Service Hangar. The Bellanca Air Service Hangar is the last remaining piece of Delaware's first airfield and of the Bellanca Company, an organization that built over 3,000 airplanes from the late 1920's through the mid-1950's. Built in 1936, the building is all that remains to represent the pre-World War II period of aviation in New Castle County.
