Brown Applauds Senate Passage of Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Restoration Act

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The U.S. Senate today passed the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Restoration Act by a vote of 61 to 36.
The bill would protect Americans against workplace discrimination based on age, gender, race, or ethnicity. The legislation would restore Title VII of the 1964 Civil Rights Act to where it was prior to a Supreme Court decision, Ledbetter V. Goodyear Tire, which limited a worker’s right to challenge employment discrimination.
Immediately following that vote, U.S. Senator Sherrod Brown (D-OH) issued the following statement:
“Today’s Senate action sends a clear message that fairness in the workplace is not optional. This legislation honors the courageous acts of Lilly Ledbetter and working women everywhere. Passing this bill is an important step toward eradicating workplace discrimination for all Americans. I am proud to support this bill and I look forward to President Obama signing it into law.”
