Marines of 3/8 Clear Southern Afghanistan’s Deadly Route 515
Marines from Company I, 3rd Battalion, 8th Marine Regiment (Reinforced), help unload cargo from a truck at Combat Outpost Barrow, Jan. 3, in Farah province, Islamic Republic of Afghanistan. Marines of Co. I. are manning the COPs along Route 515 in support of Operation Gateway III. The operation was a strategically planned effort to clear the route of deadly improvised explosive devices laid by insurgents and provide an alliance presence. 3/8 is the ground combat element of Special Purpose Marine Air Ground Task Force ? Logistics battalion supplies success during Operation Gateway III
FARAH PROVINCE, Afghanistan-Mine resistant ambush protected vehicles operated by 2nd Platoon, Motor Transportation Company, Combat Logistics Battalion 3, line up to depart from Combat Outpost Puller in Farah Province, Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, during Operation Gateway III, Jan. 7. Operation Gateway III was a strategically planned operation utilizing Combat Logistics Battalion 3 as the logistics combat element and 3rd Battalion, 8th Marine Regiment (Reinforced), as the ground combat element, in order to place combat outposts along southern Afghanistan's Route 515 in an effort to provide security and safer travel for U.S. military convoys and local Afghans.
