Murray Statement on Boeing Job Cuts

For Immediate Release:
Friday, January 9, 2009

(Washington, D.C.) – Today, U.S. Senator Patty Murray (D-WA) issued the following statement after The Boeing Company announced that they will be cutting 4,500 jobs in Washington state.

“This is another painful reminder that the recession is hitting home for Washington state families. Boeing is part of the lifeblood of our region and when Boeing hurts, Washington state hurts.

“We have a lot of work to do to get our economy back on track. We need a short-term and long-term plan to put Americans back to work and keep our economy strong well into the future.

“I look forward to working with President-elect Obama to pass an economic recovery plan that includes help to those who have been laid off and invests in the jobs of the future, like our aerospace industry. I will also be working with the Department of Labor to ensure that laid-off workers can make full use of the tools available to help them and their families.”
