The Challenge

I believe the United States must maintain a strong military to meet the challenges of the 21st century. As

a member of the Senate Appropriations Committee and former ranking Democrat on the Military Construction (Milcon) Subcommittee, I have consistently worked to provide adequate funds for our nation's defense.

My priority has always been to provide the resources and equipment necessary to protect our troops and help them complete their missions successfully, as well as increasing the standard of living for our dedicated service men and women.

Since our troops were sent to fight in Iraq and Afghanistan, I have done everything possible to provide them with the resources needed for any mission, including voting for five wartime spending packages totaling over $485 billion.

As a member of the Senate Appropriations Committee and the Veterans' Affairs Committee, I have consistently voiced my strongest support for measures affecting the quality of life of our armed forces personnel and their families, while they are serving and upon their return from conflicts overseas.

I will continue my work on issues like increased pay, improved access to health care and providing the best equipment for the men and women of the world’s finest military.
