Particularly in light of September 11, 2001, no price is too great to ensure the safety and security of our nation, our freedom, and our values. A strong national defense must be our nation's top priority. I am fighting to strengthen our national defense with specific actions, including: - Supporting passage of military pay increases totaling more than 25%.
- Authoring and passing into law an amendment to develop an effective national missle defense.
- Equipping our military with the tools necessary to win the War on Terrorism.
- Working to ease the burdens of Louisiana's deployed service members and their families.
- Reforming our intelligence system.

Untitled Document
When Congress passed an unprecedented $700 billion bailout of the financial sector, I warned that it would pave the way for future bailouts, and sadly, that prediction has proven true as the Big Three American car manufacturers are asking for a $25 billion bailout. No one wants these companies to fail, but it would be a grave mistake for the federal government to bailout these companies without fundamentally reforming their business models.
