Sen. Cornyn, a member of the Senate Armed Services Committee, visited League City to present a custom-built home to Lt. Erasmo Valles, USMC (Ret.), an Iraq war veteran, and his family on behalf of the Bay Area Builders Association’s Support Our Troops program.

Tuesday, November 11, 2008: 10th Annual Houston Salutes American Heroes Veterans Day Commemoration

Sen. Cornyn, a member of the Senate Armed Services Committee, paid tribute to our nation’s veterans at the 10th Annual Houston Salutes American Heroes Veterans Day Commemoration. As a special guest speaker, Sen. Cornyn honored the men and women who have made tremendous sacrifices to provide, strengthen, and protect the freedoms we hold dearly. He also discussed his strong commitment in the U.S. Senate to addressing and meeting the needs of our veterans and troops serving today, including enhanced health care, housing and education benefits.

Friday, November 07, 2008: Hurricane Ike Recovery Meeting with FEMA Administrator R. David Paulison

Sen. Cornyn joined Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison in hosting a meeting on Hurricane Ike recovery efforts with FEMA Administrator David Paulison and County Judges and Mayors from the region, including Orange, Chambers, Jefferson and Galveston counties.
Sen. Cornyn called on FEMA to take immediate action on temporary housing for Ike victims and other pressing issues Southeast Texans are facing.

Monday, October 27, 2008: Tarrant Area Food Bank

Sen. Cornyn visited the Tarrant Area Food Bank (TAFB) to meet with staff and volunteers from TAFB and the Texas Food Bank Network. Sen. Cornyn toured the facility to get a firsthand look at their operations and thank them for their efforts to help Texans in need during challenging economic times.

Monday, October 20, 2008: Community Health Center of Lubbock Medical Clinic Tour

Sen. Cornyn toured the Community Health Center of Lubbock (CHCL) Medical Clinic and highlighted the importance of Community Health Centers in providing affordable health care services to underserved and rural areas across Texas and the country. Sen. Cornyn was joined by Mayor Tom Martin and other city leaders for the tour and press conference.

Wednesday, October 15, 2008: USS Lexington Military Voting Event

Sen. Cornyn, a member of the Senate Armed Services Committee, hosted a press conference with Texas Secretary of State Hope Andrade and Corpus Christi Mayor Henry Garrett aboard the USS Lexington to discuss federal, state and local efforts to ensure military voters serving abroad are receiving the assistance they need to register to vote and complete and submit their ballots.

Tuesday, October 14, 2008: IMPACT After School Program Grand Opening

Sen. Cornyn attended the Grand Opening of the Phoenix House after-school program Intervention Moves Parents and Children Together (IMPACT), designed to offer a healthy environment for at-risk youth. He was joined by Mayor Tom Leppert, Rep. Pete Sessions (TX-32), Phoenix House Executive Vice President Monty Mueller, and Dallas ISD Trustee Dr. Edwin Flores.

Friday, October 10, 2008: Clean Carbon Policy Summit & Project Expo

Sen. Cornyn attended the Clean Carbon Policy Summit & Project Expo in Austin hosted by the Clean Coal Technology Foundation of Texas. He delivered the keynote address, discussing the importance of investing in clean alternative energy resources and said that Texas has the resources to be a national leader in clean coal and carbon technologies, as well as coal-to-liquids. Sen. Cornyn also provided an update on his efforts to achieve future energy security through increased domestic energy production.

Friday, October 10, 2008: Renewable Energy Roundtable and Solar Utilization Demonstration

Sen. Cornyn hosted a renewable energy roundtable meeting with San Antonio renewable energy experts and producers, along with city officials. He highlighted San Antonio’s status as one of the nation’s 25 Solar America Cities, as designated by the U.S. Department of Energy. He also provided an update on the latest legislative efforts to boost renewable energy research and production and heard from local leaders on their efforts to make San Antonio a national leader in renewable sources, including representatives from CPS Energy, Sun Edison, Solar One, and Solar San Antonio.

Wednesday, October 08, 2008: Legislative Update to Victoria Business and Community Leaders

Sen. Cornyn met with Victoria business and community leaders to discuss the latest legislative activity in Washington and also local initiatives underway to promote growth and create jobs. The event was hosted by the Victoria Economic Development Corporation and the Victoria Chamber of Commerce. Victoria has several promising economic development projects either underway or close to approval, and Sen. Cornyn assured the Victoria business and community leaders he met with that he will continue to promote policies on the federal level to keep taxes low and spur further economic growth.
