Sen. Cornyn Applauds President-elect Obama’s Transparency Pledge
Thursday, January 8, 2009
WASHINGTON—U.S. Sen. John Cornyn, R-Texas, made the following statement regarding President-elect Barack Obama’s speech this morning on the economy and his proposed economic stimulus package.
“I applaud President-elect Obama’s pledge to embrace transparency and promise to reject earmarks and frivolous spending. It is my hope that he remains true to what he said and posts his proposed stimulus plan online in its entirety for each and every American to see.
“Furthermore, I encourage President-elect Obama to be proactive in his quest for transparency and ensure his entire proposal is posted online well in advance of Congress voting on the legislation, so every member of Congress and all American taxpayers are fully informed as to how he intends to spend nearly one trillion additional dollars, what steps will be taken to ensure accountability, and what recourse taxpayers will have after the checks have been written.
“I look forward to working with President-elect Obama on our mutual goals of increasing transparency and curbing wasteful government spending.”
