Accused Double Murder “Hitman” Arrested

January 26, 2009 - A Baton Rouge man wanted for the murders of Dustin and Beth Duncan was arrested this afternoon by investigators from the Middle Louisiana Fugitive Task Force. This Week in U.S. Marshals History

U.S. Marshal Deals with Diplomacy...on January 26, 1825, when U.S. Marshal Tench Ringgold of the District of Columbia, informed the Secretary of State of disorderly conduct by a coachman toward a Mexican minister.  Immunity laws required marshals to deal with any misbehavior by or against foreign diplomats.

From Territory to District...on January 29, 1861, when Kansas was admitted as a state.  The Territory of Kansas was created almost seven years earlier. U.S. Marshal James L. McDowell was the original appointment for the new district, confirmed on March 23, 1861.
