MARTINEZ HOSTS HOMEOWNERSHIP PRESERVATION FORUM IN POLK COUNTY

Representatives from Senator Martinez’s Office, government and non-profit housing counseling agencies, and lenders will assist homeowners facing foreclosure

U.S. Senator Mel Martinez (R-FL) today announced a Homeownership Preservation Forum from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. to be held at University Of South Florida Polytechnic Campus in Lakeland on Saturday, October 4th. The event is targeted at reaching homeowners facing foreclosure and helping them learn more about their options.

“Members of my staff, government agencies, and housing industry representatives are available to assist residents impacted by the current housing crisis. Many hard-working Floridians have been hit by the crisis and we want to ensure those facing foreclosure have all the information they need,” Martinez said.

In August 2008, according to the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, 1,344 foreclosures were filed in the Tampa area. In Polk County, there have been 6,896 foreclosures since January 2007. The Office of Senator Mel Martinez and U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development will be providing a homeownership preservation forum to help homeowners struggling to make their mortgage payments find assistance. Non-profit housing counseling agencies, lenders and government agencies will be on hand to provide workshops and one-on-one assistance.
