This funding would allow for the continuation of provision of intensive critical emergency care and trauma training experience to Navy physicians, nurses and corpsmen that will be exposed to field combat conditions with a high volume of trauma patients.  This hands-on practical experience combines actual ED/trauma center and medical resuscitation experience, small group training, lecture, and simulation trauma patient scenario experience to better prepare our military medical personnel for combat medical emergencies when deployed.

This request funds research into developing an in-vitro surrogate diagnostic lung construct that can mimic and predict immunologic responses in humans.  This in-vitro test platform could be used as a rapid and predictive model for human immune response to vaccines and other therapeutic candidates to protect against biological weapons.
