Supporting Sound Legislation

While education continues to be at the forefront of Congressman Fattah’s legislative agenda in the 110th Congress, he has also been an original co-sponsor of major initiatives in an array of public policy areas.

Congressman Fattah was proud to be an original cosponsor of all six bills in the Democrats’ first 100 hours agenda.  Every bill passed with strong bipartisan support.

H.R. 1: Implementing the 9/11 Commission Recommendations Act

  • To provide for the implementation of the recommendations of the National Commission on Terrorist Attacks upon the United States.

H.R. 2: Fair Minimum Wage Act

  • Raises the federal minimum wage for the first time since 1997.

H.R. 3: Stem Cell Research Enhancement Act

  • Supports necessary funding for life-saving research.

H.R. 4: Medicare Prescription Drug Price Negotiation Act

  • Allows the Secretary of Health and Human Services to use market competition to lower drug prices for seniors.

H.R. 5: College Student Relief Act

  • Lowers the interest rates on student loans.

H.R. 6: CLEAN Energy Act

  • Ends reckless subsidies for big oil companies and instead invests in renewable energy technology.

Even before the clock began on the 100 hours, the Congressman was an original cosponsor of H.Res.6, legislation to clean up the culture of corruption and put America’s financial house back in order.

Since the first 100 hours, the Congressman has cosponsored and voted for other important pieces of legislation including:

H.Con.Res. 63: Disapproving of the decision of the President announced on January 10, 2007, to deploy more than 20,000 additional United States combat troops to Iraq.

  •       Stating Congress’ opposition to the President’s troop surge.
