Good Savings Habits Start Young: Judy helps fifth-graders at Ellsworth Elementary School in Naperville learn the importance of savings, quizzing them on the difference between “wants” and “needs”. Last year, the personal savings rate in the U.S. dropped to -0.2 percent, one of the lowest since the Great Depression.

Judy, Chairman of the House Subcommittee on Energy, joins Argonne Director Robert Rosner, U.S.Department of Energy Office of Basic Energy Sciences Director Patricia Dehmer, Center for Nanoscale Materials Director Eric Isaacs, Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity Chief of Staff Kristi Lafleur, University of Chicago Vice President Thomas Rosenbaum to cut ribbon at the Argonne’s new Center for Nanoscale Materials.
Judy honors Kristin Leavitt of Downers Grove, Nicholas Sadek of Downers Grove, and Brian Bruns of Burr Ridge for their artwork in the 2006 “An Artistic Discovery” Congressional Art Competiton. First place was awarded to Kristin Leavitt of Downers Grove for her outstanding charcoal piece, entitled “A Study in Geography.” “A Study in Geography” will be displayed as part of a national exhibit in a corridor of the U.S. Capitol that is dedicated to the talents of today’s youth.
Judy admires artwork of local high school students at the 2006 “An Artistic Discovery” Congressional Art Competition. The Congressional Art Competition is a nationwide art competition that invites Members of Congress to showcase the artistic talents of high school students in their Districts. Since it was first launched in 1982, the nationwide competition has generated thousands of local competitions involving more than 800,000 high school students.
Judy hosted business leaders and the U.S. Export-Import Bank (EXIM BANK) President Jim Lambright (left) in Naperville to discuss how EXIM BANK can enhance its services to help Chicago area businesses expand. EXIM BANK assists businesses with export financing. As vice chairman of House Financial Services Domestic and International Monetary Policy, Trade and Technology Subcommittee, Judy played a key role in drafting the law to reauthorize the bank's charter.
