It is very important to thank the men and women of our military, both past and present, who through their sacrifices have given us the very freedom we enjoy. There may be members of your family who served in combat. If so, we encourage you to talk with them about participating in the Library of Congress Veterans History Project.
The goal of the project is to record the memories of those who have served during a war. It could be a grandfather or grandmother who served in WWII, an uncle or aunt who served in Korea, a father or mother who served in Vietnam or Desert Storm, or a sister or brother just back from Iraq. The directions about how to record their stories are listed on the website link listed for the Library of Congress Veterans History Project official site.
My staff and I have participated in the project for several years and had the opportunity to meet wonderful individuals who have given so much to our country, and now their stories and contributions will forever be recorded at the Library of Congress. Please visit the website listed in the box above and learn about the program. Then talk to your loved ones about this worthwhile endeavor. Imagine a family reunion 100 years from now, when the recorded history of a heroic family member could be played and everyone there could hear and see history through the voice and video image of a loved one who lived many years ago. What a fabulous gift to share with future generations.
