Ros-Lehtinen To Visit The Upper Keys’ Reef Environmental Educational Foundation (REEF) As Well As The Island Dolphin Care

This Upcoming Tuesday March 4th

Monroe County, Florida -- Congresswoman Ileana Ros-Lehtinen, senior member of the Florida Congressional Delegation, will be visiting the Upper Keys this upcoming Tuesday, March 4th to visit the Reef Environmental Education Foundation (REEF) and The Island Dolphin Care.

Ros-Lehtinen will be visiting REEF, a grass roots organization of divers and marine lovers whose goal it is to preserve the fragile marine ecosystem of the Florida Keys. REEF handles the monitoring of various artificial reefs, working closely with the Marine Sanctuaries as well as collecting data around the world monitoring fish habitats, producing educational books and teaching conservancy and fish identification programs.

The Congresswoman will then be putting on her wetsuit to get a first hand experience with the dolphins at The Dolphin Island Care, a not for profit organization that provides dolphin assisted therapy to children with critical illnesses, disabilities and special needs from all over the world. The Center also provides marine science education programs as well as hosts educational conferences.

Said Ros-Lehtinen, “I am thrilled to be visiting REEF and getting a look at their wonderful conservation and diving programs as this group is comprised of those who truly enjoy the beauty and serenity of the seas, divers and marine conservationists.  The Dolphin center offers me an opportunity to get in my wet suit and swim with one of the ocean’s most magnificent mammals. The great work that the dolphins and their caretakers accomplish here every day is a testament to the power of alternative physical therapies and it is just fantastic to know that this organization helps so many disabled children.”
