Alternative Fuels

Behind the Wheel: Judy operates a Honda fuel cell car on New Jersey Avenue SE, just steps away from her Washington, DC office. A fuel cell converts hydrogen and water to electricity.
Judy, Chairman of the House Subcommittee on Energy, joins Argonne Director Robert Rosner, U.S.Department of Energy Office of Basic Energy Sciences Director Patricia Dehmer, Center for Nanoscale Materials Director Eric Isaacs, Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity Chief of Staff Kristi Lafleur, University of Chicago Vice President Thomas Rosenbaum to cut ribbon at the Argonne’s new Center for Nanoscale Materials.
No Heat Under the Hood: Judy and Patrick Calpin, of Honda North America, check out the hydrogen fuel cell that powers this 2006 Honda FCX. With an EPA-rated driving range of 190 miles, the vehicle runs on compressed hydrogen gas with little heat, no emissions, and only a trail of water drops in its wake. H.R. 6203, awaitng consideration in the Senate, would further advance the development of technologies for hydrogen storage onboard vehicles.
