Dodd Meets with Daschle
January 6, 2008

Senator Chris Dodd (D-CT), a senior member of the Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor and Pensions (HELP) who has been asked by Chairman Kennedy to serve as his chief deputy for health reform, today met with former Democratic Majority Leader Tom Daschle, President-Elect Obama’s nominee to be the Secretary of Health and Human Services.  He released the following statement after their meeting:

“My meeting with Tom underscored what I already knew: that he is uniquely qualified to lead the next Administration’s health care reform efforts. We all know the enormity of the task at hand, and it is a comfort to know that in Tom Daschle, we’ll have a true leader, someone who has navigated these rough waters before. Tom embodies the kind of leadership and sense of purpose our country will need in our next Secretary of Health and Human Services. I look forward to working with Tom, President-Elect Obama, and my colleagues to bring meaningful, lasting change to our nation’s health care system.”
