Couldn't come to DC for the swearing-in? Well, here's an alternative

Continuing a tradition, Reps. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen, Lincoln Diaz-Balart, Mario Diaz-Balart, Kendrick Meek and Debbie Wasserman Schultz will hold a local swearing-in ceremony Monday in downtown Miami.

Former Rep. Carrie Meek will be a "special guest" of the South Florida congressional delegation. The oath will be administered by Fred Moreno, United States Chief District Judge and a reception will follow. There'll even be a band -- the Miami Senior High School Million Dollar Band.

The ceremony begins at 10:30 a.m. at the courtyard in front of the Wilkie D. Ferguson, Jr. US Courthouse, 400 North Miami Avenue.

Ros-Lehtinen said the newly re-elected members of congress are hosting the traditional local swearing-in ceremony for families and friends who couldn't make the official Jan. 6 event in DC.

"Hosting a local swearing-in for our South Florida community has been a tradition of the Congressional Delegation," Ros-Lehtinen said. "It is great to see family; friends and supporters who couldn’t make it to Washington, DC on January 6th share with us in this magical moment.”
