Consumer Protection Resources
As consumers, we want to make informed and smart choices about the products we buy and the people with whom we do business. However, in today’s marketplace, it is often too difficult to distinguish between what is and what isn't real.
Con-artists are increasingly using the Internet and other technologies to defraud consumers. It’s hard to escape the onslaught of “Get-Rich-Quick” offers, pyramid schemes and so-called “free” prize awards. Are these great deals or are they deals too great to be true?
The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) enforces consumer protection laws that deal with consumer fraud and unfair business practices. Its primary mission is to protect consumers like you and me by providing good and timely information we can use to make informed decisions.
The FTC has developed a number of online resources that will help you clear through the clutter of false claims and fraudulent scams. They include tips and guidelines to detect false web pages, safeguard against identity theft, maintain your privacy, protect against viruses, and protect your children.
There is a wealth of information on each of these links. If you have questions, please don’t hesitate to contact Senator Dorgan’s office.
