Tracking the Money

The Panel has asked Treasury this question in its past reports. Treasury has responded that, while it is difficult to track where individual dollars flow through a complex financial institution like a bank, it is working with banking regulators to develop appropriate measurements that will allow it to determine if the TARP is having its desired effect.

In January, the Panel emphasized its belief that it is possible for the institutions to provide an accounting of where dollars flowed within their organizations and when they first left those organizations through loans, dividend repayments, executive compensation, purchase of other assets, etc.
