JULY
3, 2007 Welcome to the first edition of the
Freshmen Update, a monthly newsletter from the Majority
Leader's office that will list events and legislation for the
month ahead, offer helpful legislative and press resources and
spotlight Members of the Class of 2006.
FRESHMEN SPOTLIGHT: Baron
Hill (IN-09) Rep. Baron Hill, who serves on the
Energy and Commerce Committee, has already been very effective
in the first six months of the 110th Congress, taking the lead
on Energy, Ethics, Fiscal Responsibility and Veterans issues.
Last month, Hill introduced the "Alien Smuggling and Terrorism
Prevention Act of 2007," which passed the House and will help
law enforcement officials detain and prosecute individuals
accused of smuggling aliens into the US. Click

ADDITIONAL
RESOURCES: After years of Republican
partisanship that helped create a culture of corruption,
Democrats are operating the House of Representatives in a more
bipartisan, fair, and civil manner. As legislation moves from
committee, to the Rules Committee, to the Floor, Democrats are
allowing greater debate, while ensuring the people's business
moves forward. Click
