Planning Commission Gets $60,000 Grant

Congressman Tom Petri reports that the U.S. Commerce Department has awarded a $60,000 grant to the East Central Wisconsin Regional Planning Commission to aid the recovery following the June 2008 floods in Calumet, Fond du Lac, Winnebago, Marquette and Green Lake counties.

Kara Homan, a development planner with the Commission said, "We are planning to identify key infrastructure damaged by the flooding and to prioritize which need to be rebuilt and upgraded.  This is one of the few opportunities we get to tie together the areas of economic development and emergency planning, which are naturally strongly linked."

Petri commented, "This work is important if we are to keep our local economy moving forward, and I was pleased to be able to bring the good news to the Commission."
