Congressman S. Brett Guthrie

Brett Guthrie represents Kentucky's Second Congressional District in the U.S. House of Representatives. The Second District is home to Fort Knox, Mammoth Cave National Park, Abraham Lincoln’s birthplace, and many of the Commonwealth’s most treasured locations.

Brett attended the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, graduating in 1987 with a degree in economics.  Upon graduation, he served as a Field Artillery Officer in the 101st Airborne Division - Air Assault at Fort Campbell.  Brett later earned a Master's Degree from Yale University in Public and Private Management.

Brett joined Trace Die Cast, the Bowling Green, KY based manufacturing business that was started by his father.  The company began with only five employees and has grown to employ more than 500 workers.

In 1998, residents of Kentucky’s 32nd District elected Brett to the Kentucky Senate. The district currently encompasses Warren and Butler Counties.  In the State Senate, Brett chaired the Transportation Committee, was Vice Chairman of the Economic Development, Tourism and Labor Committee, and served on the Education Committee. Recognized for his leadership, Brett was named Vice Chair for the Standing Transportation Committee at the National Conference of State Legislatures.

In Frankfort, Brett was a leader in education issues, receiving the African American Equity Coalition's “Children's Champion” award and the College Board's “State Education Leader of the Year.”  

On November 4, 2008, Guthrie was elected to represent Kentucky’s Second Congressional District.   His priorities in Congress include balancing the federal budget, strengthening our education system, and creating a strong workforce.  With a background in business, Brett strongly supports extending the current tax cuts and creating an environment to grow and expand small businesses.  Another top priority is investing in our nation’s infrastructure.

Brett is married to the former Beth Clemmons. They have three children, Caroline 14, Robby 13, and Elizabeth 10.
