9/26/07: Dodd Lauds Health and Human Service Grants to Provide Energy Assistance to Connecticut

More than $7 million will help Connecticut’s most vulnerable citizens

Senator Chris Dodd (D-CT) today announced that he was pleased Connecticut will receive more than $7 million in energy assistance to help eligible low income homeowners and renters meet their home energy costs. The grants were announced today by Secretary of Health and Human Services Mike Leavitt.

Bill authorizes $45 million for Connecticut projects

Senators Chris Dodd (D-CT) and Joe Lieberman (ID-CT) secured $45 million in authorized spending for Connecticut water resource projects within The Water Resources Development Act of 2007 Conference Report, a bill that the Senate passed last night.  The legislation gives the Army Corps of Engineers authority to undertake essential water resource studies and to construct and modify water resource projects that will help Connecticut communities ensure the safety and cleanliness of their water supplies, restore marine habitats, and improve navigation in working harbors.  The conference report was passed by the House of Representatives last month and will now be sent to the President’s desk for his signature. 


9/12/07: Dodd, Lieberman Announce Major Funding for Connecticut's Defense, Submarine Industry

Senators Chris Dodd (D-CT) and Joe Lieberman (ID-CT) today announced the approval of the 2008 Defense Appropriations Bill by a key Senate panel which includes substantial funding for Connecticut’s defense industry.  This bill, which was unanimously approved by the Senate Appropriations Committee, contained significant additional funds that will increase submarine production to two submarines per year by 2010 – two years earlier than originally planned by the Navy.  This funding impacts thousands of jobs throughout Connecticut, especially in the southeast region of the state.  The bill also includes substantial investments in current defense systems and research and development activities to ensure U.S. soldiers, sailors, airmen, and marines are outfitted with the quality resources they need to perform their missions


9/07/07: Dodd, Lieberman Announce New Fire Grants for Connecticut

Mohegan Fire Company Receives $143,771 in

Homeland Security Funds

Senators Chris Dodd (D-CT) and Joe Lieberman (ID-CT) today announced a federal grant to Mohegan Fire Company, totaling $143,771. The funds, distributed by the Department of Homeland Security’s Assistance to Firefighters Grants (AFG) program, will enable Connecticut firefighters to enhance their emergency response capabilities. In fiscal year 2007, the AFG program will award approximately $490 million to fire and EMS departments across America.


9/06/07: Dodd, Lieberman Secure Funds for Critical Connecticut Military Facilities

Senators Chris Dodd (D-CT) and Joe Lieberman (ID-CT) today announced critical funding for key military facility improvements in Connecticut.  The 2008 Military Construction and Veterans Affairs Appropriations Act, approved by the Senate today, included $11.9 million to renovate a small craft facility at the New London submarine base and $13.6 million to develop a new Readiness Center at the Connecticut National Guard training center located in Niantic. 


8/17/07: Dodd, Lieberman Announces Nearly 2 Million Dollars In Port Security and Emergency Management Grants

Senators Chris Dodd, (D-CT), and Joe Lieberman, (ID-CT), announced Thursday that Connecticut will receive more than $1.1 million in port security grants from the Infrastructure Protection Program within the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). New London will receive $767,438, Bridgeport will receive $285,336 and New Haven will receive $48,500. Connecticut will also receive $728, 231 in Emergency Management Performance Grants (EMPF) as part of the FY2007 Supplemental Appropriations. Furthermore, Connecticut will participate in a $37-million transit security grant program for the New York City metropolitan area


7/26/07: Dodd, Lieberman Announce Federal Grants for CT Firefighters

Senators Chris Dodd and Joe Lieberman announced today that more than $550,000 in federal grants was awarded to four Connecticut fire departments. The grants were made possible through the Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) Program’s Fire Prevention & Safety Grant initiative, administered by the U.S. Fire Administration.


7/20/07: Dodd, Lieberman Hail Senate Passage of Transportation, Housing, Energy and Water Appropriations Bills

Senators Chris Dodd (D-CT) and Joe Lieberman (D-CT) successfully secured more than $30 million for critical transportation, urban development, and environmental needs in Connecticut. The funding, which was included in the Senate's Transportation, Housing and Urban Development and Energy and Water bills, was approved by the Senate Appropriations Committee last week.  The Senators also secured funding for the Women’s Business Development Center in Stamford, CT as part of the Financial Services appropriations bill.


7/11/07: Dodd, Lieberman Hail Subcommittee Passage of Appropriations Bill to Secure Millions for Connecticut Programs

Senators Chris Dodd (D-CT) and Joe Lieberman (ID-CT) applauded legislation approved on June 28 by the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Commerce, Justice, Science, and Related Agencies that will provide funding for afterschool and gang prevention programs for Connecticut youth, equipment upgrades for Connecticut’s public safety systems, and research initiatives at the Institute of Exploration in Mystic, CT, among other things.  Dodd and Lieberman worked to secure funding for Connecticut projects in the bill that will provide more than $4.5 million in new federal funds for initiatives statewide.

The Senate Appropriations Committee last week approved legislation that would provide funds for environmental preservation and conservation efforts across Connecticut, Senators Chris Dodd and Joe Lieberman announced today. Dodd and Lieberman secured funding for a number of Connecticut projects in the appropriations bill that covers the Department of the Interior, the Environmental Protection Agency, and other independent federal agencies.
