Washington- U.S. Congressman Jerry Costello (D-IL) announced that the House of Representatives is set to approve funding for projects at Scott Air Force Base as part of the final Military Construction Appropriations bill for fiscal year 2004 as soon as today. Two projects - $1.9 million for security upgrades to the Shiloh Gate and $2.52 million for planning and design of a new Tanker Airlift Control Center - were included in the legislation. The Senate is expected to pass the bill this week.
"These are important projects to improve the security and effectiveness of Scott Air Force Base," said Costello. "Scott continues to be at the center of the war on terrorism and an integral part of our national security system. I will continue to pursue resources for the base."
Earlier this year, Costello lead the effort with other members of the Illinois congressional delegation to secure more than $12 million to continue the use of C-9 aircraft at Scott as well as to explore the feasibility of a C-40 mission at the base.
