Washington - U.S. Congressman Jerry Costello (D-IL) announced today that the full House of Representatives has approved funding for projects in the 12th Congressional District as part of H.R. 2754, the Energy and Water Appropriations bill for Fiscal Year 2004.
The projects include:
* $2.188 million for operation and maintenance of the Kaskaskia Navigation System.
* $2.3 million for work at the Chain of Rocks Canal, Madison County.
* $500,000 for the Mel Price Lock and Dam.
* $100,000 for work at the Wood River Levee, Madison County.
"These funds will allow for work to continue at these important navigation and flood control projects throughout the region," said Costello. "I am pleased that the House included these funds in the bill."
The funds for the Kaskaskia River will allow for continued operation and maintenance, as well as additional dredging.
While the legislation must still be considered by the Senate, Costello is confident the funding will be retained.
