Washington - U.S. Congressman Jerry Costello (D-IL) announced today that the East St. Louis Fire Department has received a $117,774 Assistance to Firefighters grant through the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). The grant will be used for fire operations and firefighter safety. Costello was a cosponsored of the legislation that created the Assistance to Firefighters program.
"Our first responders need adequate resources to ensure public safety," said Costello. "These funds will enhance fire protection services in the region, and I will work to ensure that these resources remain available."
The Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program is administered by the U.S. Fire Administration, which is part of FEMA, and assists rural, urban and suburban fire departments throughout the United States.
