Washington -- U.S. Congressman Jerry Costello (D-IL) announced today that the McClure-East Cape Girardeau Fire Protection District has received a $32,567 Assistance to Firefighters grant through the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). The grant will be matched by $3,618 in local funds and will be used for fire operations and firefighter safety. Costello cosponsored the legislation that created the Assistance to Firefighters program.
"Our number one priority must always be the safety of our communities," said Costello. "These funds will enhance fire protection services in Alexander County, and I will work to ensure that these resources remain available."
Costello is a senior member of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee. He is the ranking Democrat on the Economic Development, Public Buildings and Emergency Management Subcommittee.
