WASHINGTON – Senators Chris Dodd (D-CT) and Joe Lieberman (D-CT) announced today that the Canterbury and Killingworth Volunteer Fire Companies will receive $106,799 in federal grants from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS). The funding will be used for operations and safety.
“The volunteer fire departments in Canterbury and Killingworth are crucial elements of these small towns,” said Dodd. “Volunteers in these departments work to protect their communities from fire and other dangers, and we should provide them the resources necessary to continue their honorable and critical work.”

WASHINGTON – Senators Chris Dodd (D-CT) and Joe Lieberman (D-CT) announced today that six Connecticut fire departments will receive $362,427 in federal funding through the Assistance to Firefighters Grants (AFG) and Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Repose (SAFER) programs, which are administered by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS).
September 29, 2006 WASHINGTON – The Senate today approved the 2007 Defense Appropriations Conference Report, which has already been approved by the House of Representatives and is expected to be signed by the President. Due to the efforts of Senators Chris Dodd (D-CT) and Joe Lieberman (D-CT), the bill supports Connecticut’s defense industry, particularly in the critical areas of submarine research and technology. In addition to boosting Connecticut’s economy, the funding will help ensure that U.S. soldiers, sailors, airmen, and marines are outfitted with the resources they need to perform their missions.
September 8, 2006 Washington – Senator Chris Dodd (D-CT) and Joe Lieberman (D-CT) today announced that four cities and towns in Connecticut will receive help from the federal government to assist local law enforcement agencies with school safety measures. The grants, totaling $278,028 and distributed to the towns of Clinton and Granby and the cities of Hartford and Stamford, are disbursed by the Department of Justice’s Office of Community Oriented Policing (COPS).

Washington, D.C. – Acknowledging the importance of preserving and protecting southeastern Connecticut’s Eightmile River, Senators Chris Dodd (D-CT) and Joe Lieberman (D-CT) today announced that they have proposed legislation which would assign the federal Wild and Scenic status to the river. The bill asks the Secretary of the Interior to designate Eightmile River as Wild and Scenic, following a comprehensive study highlighting the river’s intrinsic and environmental value. A similar measure was proposed in the House by Representative Rob Simmons (CT-2).
July 21, 2006Washington – Senators Chris Dodd (D-CT) and Joe Lieberman (D-CT) successfully secured more than $18 million for Connecticut's transportation and urban development needs, they announced today. These resources, which were included in the Senate's Transportation, Treasury, Housing and Urban Development appropriations bill, will go towards initiatives across the state aimed at reducing traffic congestion, promoting alternative modes of transportation, increasing transportation safety, increasing homeownership, fighting urban blight, and supporting youth development. The bill was approved by the Senate Appropriations Committee earlier this week.

WASHINGTON—Thirteen Connecticut towns will receive equipment worth a total of $216,000 to help improve first responder capabilities, Senators Chris Dodd and Joe Lieberman announced today. The equipment will be provided through federal grants from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security under the Commercial Equipment Direct Assistance Program (CEDAP). The initiative provides law enforcement and emergency responder agencies with equipment to improve communications between local first responders in order to increase efficiency in regional responses.
