Washington - U.S. Congressman Jerry Costello (D-IL) announced today that the General John A. Logan Museum, located in Murphysboro, has received a $5,000 grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities. The funds will be used to conduct a collections assessment for the museum, which examines the life of General John A. Logan, who volunteered for the Mexican War in 1846, became a volunteer general in the Civil War and then pursued a political career that led from county clerk to U.S. Senator. The collection contains household furnishings, military memorabilia, photographs, maps and correspondence.
"General John A. Logan is one of the most accomplished Americans in our history," said Costello. "These funds will help maintain and improve the museum, which is important for regional tourism as well as preserving the General's legacy."
