Washington - U.S. Congressman Jerry Costello (D-IL) announced today that after consulting with Governor Blagojevich's office he expects the Governor to ask for federal disaster assistance to help deal with last week's harsh winter storm. Hundreds of thousands of people in the bi-state region have been without power since the storm hit. The Illinois National Guard has been called out in some areas of the state.
"I am pleased that the Governor is taking this important step," said Costello. "In times of severe weather such as this, we need to tap every resource possible to help with the recovery and I will fully support this request."
